In 1975, El Guero opened Carnitas Uruapan with one goal in mind – to introduce the authentic carnitas of his hometown of Uruapan to Chicago. Over the years, El Guero has become a nationally recognized master of his craft. His carnitas are made fresh daily according to El Guero’s family recipe. Carnitas are soft corn tortillas wrapped around shredded pork.
Their menu is reflective of the street fare found in markets in western Mexico in the state of Michoacán and the side dishes are what is commonly served to compliment this excellent dish.
